How To Blog For Newbies Day 6
Before starting HowToBlog.org and SphereScreen.com, I have already written other blogs as well. All of them are done under Google’s Blogspot.
The first was written with the intention of sharing my management experience and the second blog, about foreign exchange. After a few days, I ran out of steam.
Why did I blog then? Probably just to join in the fray.
Why do you blog?
Dr Alan Cann describe his blog:
- is a place where I think, plan and reflect
- forces me to read in order to gather the input I need for my output
- is a place where I play with technology and ideas
- often surprises me
- is a place where I collaborate
- is currently the most satisfying part of my job
- is slightly dangerous
- is compulsive
Dr Walter van den Broek said this about Blogging:
“Certainly a small part of the fun is hoping for admiration and affirmation. I check my blog stats and google analytics regularly and a peak in readers certainly is another boost for writing more posts. Eventually you get to “know” your colleague bloggers, and human contact grows. The most important reason for me to blog is to keep up with developments in my field and make ideas and these developments known and published. A growing number of professionals have started weblogging to share their personal knowledge.”
There are 3 main reasons for blogging?
- Professional Recognition – to share knowledge with readers and to portray oneself as an expert in one’s area of expertise
- Employment Opportunity
- Blogging as a Business – good blogs are potential revenue generators
Frankly speaking, everybody has their own reason for reaching out to internet audience. Whatever it is, your blog is a good way to your customers and to interact with your fellow hobbyist. Good luck!

Comments5 Things To Consider When Producing Blog Content
Posted by Jonnotie on December, 4, 2009
Learn How To Blog For Newbies Day 5
Now, with your WordPress set up and your theme installed, you are ready to blog. You know, I was all excited when I first started how to blog with my first website called SphereScreen.com.
Naturally, I started doing research on the generic name of Sphere Screen and guess what? The technology is still at its infancy and I have no idea when the technology will take off. So I did the next best thing. With the help of my friend, I have decided to put in the latest technology happening of displays that may one day incorporated into the futuristic Sphere Screen.
Here are a few steps you would have to take when you want to post content into your website.
1. Plan Your Theme
What I am trying to say is, decide on the theme before you even start writing. Plan ahead. Many new bloggers make a mistake of writing about anything that crosses their mind.
Without a proper theme to guide you, your blog will run a danger of turning into a dumpsite of incoherent contents. One day you may write about your hobby, the next day, you might just decide to post in something about your cat. I am not saying this is wrong if your main intention is to talk about your lifestyle. Just take a few days to think about this.
2. Research Your Content
Ok ok I know you are already an expert in what ever you want to blog about. However, that doesn’t mean that you need not further your knowledge about your topic of interest. You can find out more about the latest news regarding your interest from various sources of information. When I want to research on LCD display for example, I get my information from Digg.com, zdnet.com, technologyreview.com among others.
3. Be Original
Never duplicate word for word from other writers’ content into your blog. Apart from running the risk of infringement, you are doing a disservice to your valuable blog site. Words spread fast in the World Wide Web and if your contents are just mere duplication of other people’s work, your traffic would be limited.
4. Add Value
Your blog is an extension to the knowledge you want to share with your readers. As a result, your content should add values to their lifestyle. For example, individuals with anxiety attack would loves a blog that tells them how to solve their problems. AnxietyAttack.org would be good website for these group of individuals.

5. A Good Title
A good title has the power to pull or push readers way from your blog post. The keywords in your title enable search engines to crawl to your blog.
