How To Blog For Newbies Day 3
All right, now you have finally decided on the web host provider you desired. It’s time to get technical before going further to learn how to blog. You have to point your domain from your domain name registrar to your new web host. I’ll be using my experience in pointing my domain from GoDaddy to my web host.
1. Login to your GoDaddy account.
2. Go to My Domain Manager. Here, you would see all your domain names, with their respective expiry date, status and features.
3. Under features column, click on the “lock” symbol to unlock your domain name. Next, switch off the “auto-renew” symbol, under the same column. GoDaddy would send an email indicating that these steps have been executed.
4. Click on your domain name, and your domain manager would direct you to your domain information.
5. Under the page of domain information, you would see “Nameservers” at the lower left. Click on this and a pop-up to set name servers will appear.
6. Click on “I host my domain with another provider”. Point the nameservers to that provided by your web hosting service provider.
7. Login to web host, and asked their technical support to install WordPress for your domain. Some may provide a simple click and download icon. This may take a while depending on the complexity.
8. After installing WordPress, your ‘property’ is now ready. We’ll talk about setting up your blog using WordPress next.
