Fear as we know it, is a double-edged sword. You could either succumb to it or you can let this invisible force drive you to perform miracles. Blogging, like any business venture could be a lonely journey and most of the time, you need to make lonely decisions.

Remember the day when you were deliberating in getting your own domain, you have immersed yourself into a whole new decision making process of an entrepreneur. You decided on the domain name, and subsequently, you have to make further decisions on how to develop it. Fear arises.

Even as you have started putting contents into your blog, different sets of fear start to appear.

This post is written, solely for one reason;that is to remind myself and other fellow newbies not to give up when we encounter fear. These are the strategies:

Strategy 1: Acknowledge Your Fear

Not too long ago (around 4 weeks ago), I was still struggling to accept the fact that I may not be able to leave any legacy for my kid. Does the poor kid has any other choice apart from having to go through the same rat race as his father did?

You see, I was on a transitional stage then, where either I just accept  my fate or I would pick myself up and start something different.  My fear is genuine that I might die broke someday and leave my family high and dry.

By acknowledging my fear of mediocrity, I decided to consult an old friend whom fate has brought him to me during my hour hopelessness. The meeting with him has opened up a new dimension in my life. From someone who only knows how to check email and do simple word-processing, I have learnt how to blog and build websites. In 4 weeks, I have actually built 4 websites: one news blog; another one which is a collaboration with my sister; HowToBlog.org and an up-and-coming amplifier site.

Strategy 2: Accept Mistakes

Entrepreneurs are suppose to make mistakes whereas employees make sure no mistakes are done. We are in the blog business, and like any other business, risk are inevitable.

Your blog may never see enough traffic to take off successfully. Your site may crash. Just the other day, my Multi Zone Amplifier met with a problem whereby it can’t upload pictures. Imagine a website built solely to introduce a product with no picture. So what? What did the glitches cost me? It’s not like I am going to lose millions due to a few hours of downtime.

My loss that day was probably the opportunity to work on the site with some pictures and descriptions. So while I left it to my web host to solve the problem for me, I worked on contents for this blog. No love lost. Now try telling that to a steel milling factory.

Strategy 3: Know Your Strength

Ever realize how effortless it is to perform some task in which you encounter daily. Human is a weird creature.

We are always focusing and envying the strength of other people, but failed to acknowledge our own competencies. There are numerous way to look at this scenario:

a. If your blogs or websites failed, you still have your competencies to fall back on.

b. You could integrate your strength into the world of blogging. 2 days ago as I was discussing about my new passion with a dear friend of mine, she toyed with an idea of setting up a blog related to her forte, How To Blog on Human Resource Management.

Strategy 4: Focus On Your Blog, Not Fear

Are you someone whom would easily freeze into inactivity when you encounter fear? Anxiety attack is the right word.

Well, as human beings, we frequently encounter helplessness when come face to face with our fear. Realize this. ‘Fear’ is formless unless we decide to give life to it. And we need to summon a great deal of energy in order to give life to ‘fear’. Why not focus your energy into building your blogs instead?

Mind you, if you are running a brick and mortar business, there is usually no room for helplessness. You can’t waste your time worrying  about the bad economic climate. Instead, you got to take actions, actions with the best interest for your company.

The same thing applies to your blog. Focus on the content and in the marketing of your blog. Blogs are much more simpler than most of the conventional business in the mortal world. When we talk about blog marketing, you need not leave your computer table to approach medias. You need not scratch your head about A&P budget. All you need is your time and computer. Perfect!!

Strategy 5: Capitalize In The Advantage Of Your Blog Business

What other business in this world would allow you to spend time with your family while running the business operation simultaneously?

Look at myself. I am the proud owner of 12 domains with acceptable generics. If I choose to develop anyone of them, all I need is 1 day, including web hosting and setting up the appropriate software to render it operational. And how much do they cost me? Only USD 10 for each registration!

I don’t know about you, but I think blogging is a perfect business for someone who has limited monetary resources. No doubt the blog business is a low barrier to entry business, and any Tom, Dick and Harry could be in business in minutes. However, bear in mind, to run a successful blog, you still need skill and stamina. Running a blog business is a marathon, not a sprint!

Look at the beauty of blogging, if there are no traffic, you need not be bogged down by high inventory, high overhead cost like labour ( ok you can hire some free lance to build your content once you have 2 blogs earning incomes for you), rental, logistic, advertising fees and others

In a nutshell, do your best on your blog and leave the rest to God.
